AFCON 2019 Qualifier Nigeria Vs South Africa

Good evening and welcome to our coverage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa from the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, on Saturday 10 June 2017.

The action as it happened... All times CAT 90+4' - Full time - Nigeria 0-2 SA - What a stunning win for South Africa, who were resilient at the back and devastating on the counter attack! It's their first competitive win over the Super Eagles and sees them join Libya on three points at the top of Group E. 90+1' - There will be four minutes of added time. Etebo shoots direct from a free kick, with his effort deflecting off the wall and behind for a corner. 89' - Manyama with a great chance for 3-0 but he blazes his effort high and wide! 88' - Nigeria need a goal in the next couple of minutes if this game isn't to fizzle out. 86' - Victor Osimhen replaces Simon in the last change for Nigeria. 85' - SA's final change sees Tiyani Mabunda replace a knackered Dolly, who ran his socks off. 83' - Akpeyi gets his hands on the ball as SA threaten a third goal. This is looking like a stunning away win for Stuart Baxter's side. 81' - GOAL! Nigeria 0-2 SA - Tau makes an immediate impact, latching onto a long ball, rounding the goalkeeper and tapping home into an empty net! 80' - Percy Tau replaces an injured Rantie up front for Bafana Bafana. 78' - A mad scramble in the Bafana box as Musa almost gets the better of Khune and Furman has to clear from almost under his own crossbar! 77' - Etebo shoots from a tight angle and it's no worry for Khune. Time running out for the Super Eagles... 75' - Ndidi with a shooting chance from the edge of the box... he puts it over the target! 72' - Dolly with a chance on the counter attack, he's brought down in the box but no penalty! 71' - Nigeria's second change sees Iheanacho make way for Olarenwaju Kayode. 70' - Zwane hits the post again! Bafana on a counter attack, which sees them open up a chance for Zwane, who beats Akpeyi but not the near post! 69' - Nigeria using plenty of diagonal balls out to their wingers, they reckon they can hurt SA out wide. 68' - Midway through the second half, SA are already defending deep and looking to hit on the counter. 65' - Lebogang Manyama replaces Vilakazi in SA's first change. Manyama plays for Cape Town City and was the top scorer in South Africa's top flight domestic league. 64' - Langerman with a good chase and tackle on Musa. Now Simon again threatens as he chips a cross from the left of the penalty area which floats agonisingly out of reach for his fellow attackers. 61' - Past the hour mark, are South Africa set for their first ever competitive win over Nigeria? 59' - Ndidi rises highest to meet a corner kick, but his header is way off target. Nigeria make the first substitution as Ahmed Musa replaces Iwobi. 57' - Great skill from Simon down the left flank to beat his defender and provide a dangerous cross, but Mathoho clears well. 54' - GOAL! Nigeria 0-1 SA - Mphahlele provides a fine cross from the right, Rantie heads on goal and beats Akpeyi at his near post! Bafana Bafana lead in Uyo! 52' - All Nigeria early in the second half, but Bafana's defence looks relatively comfortable. 49' - A free kick for Nigeria sees Mathoho head behind for a corner kick. Etebo's cross to the back post is cleared by Vilakazi. 46' - Back underway in the second half, no changes from either team at the break. 45+1' - Half time - Nigeria 0-0 SA - There's the whistle for half time. Nigeria have been the better team for the most part, but South Africa improved as the game went on and hit the post a few minutes ago. An intriguing second half awaits. 42' - Akpeyi drops Langerman's cross from the left, Zwane latches onto the loose ball and hits the post from close range! What a chance for SA, what a let-off for Nigeria and Akpeyi! 40' - Closing in on half time, still 0-0 between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana in Uyo. 38' - Troost-Ekong easily beats Rantie to a hopeful long ball from Dolly. Nigeria on attack and Khune has to tip a cross-shot over his crossbar for a corner. 35' - Hlatshwayo makes a goal-saving interception to prevent a through ball putting Iheanacho clean on goal. 34' - Mphahlele crosses from the right, Chidozie with a good headed clearance. 31' - Past the half hour mark, still goalless in Uyo. Nigeria have been the better team, but SA will be satisfied with a stalemate so far. 28' - Simon shoots for goal direct from a free kick, but can't beat the South African defensive wall. 26' - Now it's Echiejile's turn to avoid a yellow card as he chops down Zwane in the middle of the park. 22' - Etebo arrives late around the penalty spot to meet Iheanacho's ball across the face of goal, but his effort skips wide of Khune's right-hand post! That should have been 1-0 to Nigeria... 21' - Khune quickly off his line to make a vital clearance well outside his box after Bafana Bafana's defence was caught square. 20' - Onazi maybe lucky not to be yellow carded for a cynical foul on Dolly when SA had a counter attack opening up. 18' - South Africa now pushing a little higher up the field to press the hosts and ensure they don't have such easy possession. 15' - Dolly takes the corner kick, but fails to beat the first man - easy defending for Nigeria, who have comfortably been the better team thus far. 14' - Dolly almost sneaks free down the left by-line, but Troost-Ekong clears for a corner kick. 13' - Etebo appeals for a hand-ball in the box from Hlatshwayo as the SA captain blocks his low cross from the right, but the officials aren't interested. 11' - First clear chance of the game sees Ndidi pick up on a loose ball on the edge of the box and volley off target with the left foot! 8' - Mphahlele breaks away on the counter to lead SA's first attack, but it fizzles out to nothing. 6' - Iwobi tumbles in the box under a somewhat clumsy challenge from Mathoho, but there's no real hope of a penalty. 4' - First couple of corners go to Nigeria, but the hosts aren't able to test out SA's defence with either. 3' - Both teams settling into the game in the early minutes. Nigeria enjoying more of the ball so far. 1' - Kick-off - We are underway in Uyo!
